If you back up your data to a PC or a spin there is no chance of data loss due to a software or operating system or damage the system or hard drive. In these cases, online backup services box net are a better option to store data for long.

Hi, I'm interested in the route that the ferry takes from NYC to the Vineyard. Does it travel through Long Island Sound, or go along the south shore of Long Island in the Atlantic Ocean?
Any information you can provide would be helpful.
Thanks.

Sounds like PR bull to me! "Rogue Wave" in Block Island Sound? I don't think so. I think the Captain was running the boat too fast in following seas and experienced what is know as "stuffing the bow". This is when the vessel is travelling faster than the waves and actually falls off the steep front of the wave after passing over it from behind. The bow will dive sharply into the backside of the next wave in front while the wave she just fell off lifts the stern and pushes the bow deeper into the next wave, thus breaking up the bicycles, deck boxes and windows. A decrease in speed when surfing on the crest of such a wave will usually avert this experience. I bet the captain had to pick up a new set of skivvies in New London!

Catamaran Ferry Operator

The Block Island wave & wind data was from Sunday about the time Seastreak was crossing that area. Large following seas + against tides = bigger waves. Pretty simple equation - I have seen this while fishing many times in Vineyard Sound.

I looked up the Block Island Wave Data and it looks like the buoy was reporting waves around 7 feet at 5 seconds and building with the wind blowing at 31 mph out of the ESE...pretty nasty stuff.

Wave: http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/show_plot.php?station=...

Wind: http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/show_plot.php?station=...

I did hear that the Vineyard Fast Ferry service from Quonset Point, Rhode Island cancelled service in the afternoon because of the high seas and their ferry route is more sheltered wehereas Seastreak sails way out in the open ocean from the tip of Long Island right past Block Island for 2 plus hours, much rougher waters.

Not sure, although Steamship Authority service was altered that evening and OB Harbor is being avoided all day today so there's definitely still stormy weather in the area.

Thanks for this information. I wonder if any other boats were in the area and were hit by this wave as well?
